Spanish-German co-production “The Great Match” has sold to five territories since last month’s premiere in the Berlin Film Festival’s Berlinale Special section.
Helmer Gerardo Olivares’ feature debut, a multi-ethnic comedy about the attempts of tribal groups around the world to watch a soccer match, has sold to French distrib Ocean Film, Greece’s Rosebud Film, Xenix Film in Switzerland, Brazil’s Providence Film and Flash Forward Entertainment in Taiwan.
Pic’s producers, Wanda Films in Madrid and Greenlight Media in Berlin, are handling domestic rights in their territories, while German-based Match Factory is peddling the pic internationally. Meanwhile, Greenlight Media on Tuesday appointed Sophokles Tasioulis to its management board.
Tasioulis joined Greenlight Media in 2001 and has been head of documentary and VP of production, overseeing projects such as hit nature docu “Deep Blue,” a co-production with BBC Worldwide, as well as “The Great Match.” He is currently producing “Earth,” a follow-up to “Deep Blue.”
